It all started back in 1994.  I was required to take an art elective in college.  Who would think that a basic photography course would turn into a lifelong obsession?  I was hooked from the moment I stepped into the darkroom and watched my first image magically appear on the paper.

Before I ever picked up a camera I was drawn to images like those in Rolling Stone Magazine.  I loved photography that told the stories of the musician’s that I looked up to as a teenager. Photographers like Anton Corbjin, Annie Leibovitz, Jim Marshall, Mario Testino, and Herb Ritts would become heavy influences on my approach to photography.

I was naturally drawn to music photography and cut my teeth early and often in the press pits of music festivals and countless concerts around the country.  I learned how to shoot fast and efficiently in difficult lighting situations while under pressure.  Capturing an image during a show that conveys the energy of the moment isn’t an easy task when you have just under 10 minutes to do it.  The adrenaline rush is addicting and chasing a timeless image is something that I’ll always love doing.

In 1999, I was approached by one of the most prominent wedding photographers in San Diego, California to become an assistant.  For four years I patiently learned the subtle nuances of what it takes to become great at shooting weddings before I ever picked up a camera and actually had the chance to shoot.

Flash forward to 2017. Countless weddings, big and small, all over the globe and I’m still working with my good friend Paul as an associate photographer in San Diego as well as running my own destination wedding business in my home town of Newport, Rhode Island.  It’s one of the most challenging jobs but also one of the most rewarding.  Being able to create timeless images for my clients that stand the test of time is such an honor.

PHILOSOPHY

philosophy

My approach to photographing weddings hasn’t changed much over the years.  The process starts well before I ever pick up a camera to create images.  Listening to my clients wants and needs is without a doubt the most important factor that comes into play when creating images of their wedding day.  I take the time to genuinely get to know them as people.  It is important for me to know them as individuals and as a couple.  The key to amazing images is being comfortable and confident with the person taking your photos.

“When people talk, listen completely.  Most people never listen.” ~ Ernest Hemingway

I shoot a limited number of weddings each year for a variable of reasons.  The number one reason I only shoot between 12 to 15 weddings a year is customer service.  I provide a level of customer service that limits my time.  I’m a firm believer in quality over quantity.  I like being able to provide a high level of service to each of my clients without feeling like I’m spread too then.  Shooting weddings is demanding and requires that I’m able to focus with as little stress as possible so that in the end I provide my clients with a product and level of service that is tailored exactly for them.

“Consistently amazing customer service doesn’t happen by accident.  It happens on purpose!” ~ Shep Hyken
